1.Learn the use of thermometers to measure hotness, leading to distinction between heat and temperature.

2. Learn that temperature is a measure of how hot or cold an object is.

3. Learn that the sun is our main source of light and heat.

4. Distinguish between heat and temperature.

Children will be able to:

1. Tell pupils that they are going to watch a PowerPoint presentation to introduce the new topic.

2. Tell pupils that they are going to measure temperatures using a thermometer.E.g. cup of tea /coffee, water from tap (hot and cold), water left outside in a cup, the air in the room, pupils' hands, cool drinks. Make a tale of results with the item in one column and the temperature in the other.

3. Suggest a source of information on summer temperatures and winter temperatures. e.g. a newspaper, internet.Record information in a table.

4. Discuss various sources of heat and light.Elicit the sun as the main source.

5. Tell pupils that they are going to complete worksheet 17.
