1. Become familiar with the process of fertilization. Seeds are formed when one pollen grain joins one of the ovules in a flower. This is called fertilization. 2. Learn that a fruit is a box with seeds.

1. Introduction. Recap pollination (the transfer of pollen from the anther to the stigma).Recap the differences between wind and insect pollination. 3. Ask pupils the following questions: At pollination, pollen is transferred to the stigma. Where does it need to go to make seeds? (ovary) What needs to happen in the ovary to make a new seed? pollen and egg must join together. How can the pollen get to the egg? 4. Tell pupils that they are going to do the following activities: - View pollen tubes under the microscope and draw observations at various magnifications. - Demonstrate the action of the fertilization watching a PowerPoint presentation. - If possible show video sequence of fertilization. 5. Tell children that they are going to complete worksheet 13 in which they do different activities related to pollination. - ICT pollination. View plant activities and video clips of fertilization: W1 , W2, W3, W4 |
