1. Ask people to recall the group of vertebrates which they have been investigating so far - mammals, birds, fish and reptiles. There is another group in this category. Elicit the term "amphibians" and clarify meaning. From observation (video, slides, posters, PowerPoint presentation...) pupils identify distinguishing characteristics i.e. most have smooth skin and four legs. (If you are able to visit a pond, pupils will be able to extend their use of keys to identify pond organisms.) Pupils research as before, including the fact that amphibians lay eggs in water.

2. Tell pupils that they are going to watch a PowerPoint presentation about amphibians.

3. Pupils complete Worksheet 5 in which they have to:

- Write the name of each group of vertebrates.

- Match different words and write five sentences.

- Talk about different vertebrates.

4. Tell pupils that they are going to play a game to reinforce what they have learnt. (Game 4)
