1. Learn that invertebrates are animals which have no backbone.

2. Understand that they are divided into four sets: worms, molluscs,insects and spiders.

3. Learn about worms: they eat plants and animals.They lay eggs.Their body is covered with a soft skin.

4. Learn about molluscs: they eat plants or animals. They lay eggs. They have soft body. They usually have a shell. Examples: snail, mussel,slug, squid.

5. Learn about insects: they eat plants or other insects. They lay eggs. They have six legs.They have three part body.

 

Children will be able to:

1. Memorise key vocabulary.

2. Memorise and use key phrases.

3. Recognise different types of invertebrates.

4. Describe invertebrates.

1. Teacher uses a PowerPoint presentation/posters/ pictures/reference books/video material/internet... to raise pupils' awareness of invertebrate groups and to assist pupils with identification. With due attention to healthy and safety, pupils observe worms, slugs and snails using hand magnifiers. Pupils should be able to draw annotated diagrams and make brief notes.

2. Tell pupils that they are going to watch a PowerPoint presentation about invertebrates.

3. Pupils complete Worksheet 6 in which they have to:

- Write the name of the different invertebrate groups.

- Write a description of an insect.

-Sort invertebrates into different groups and say how they sorted them.

- Complete with the names of the different insect body parts.

4. Pupils play two games to reinforce what they have learnt. (Game 5 and Game 6)
