PROCESS

1. You will be working in groups of 4, so the first order of business is to pick your research teams. As a group - you are responsible for completing all parts of this project. Each group member must participate in all the activities delegated by the group. The group can divide up group tasks in any way that it wishes. As an individual - each member will have to develop their own activities.

2. Each team will be composed of four experts:

A) the AUTHOR expert. Your main task will be to find out who the most important mystery authors are and justify why they have become part of the history of crime fiction.

B) the SETTING expert. Your main task will be to research the historical period portraited in the novel. Include the location and the time setting of the novel.

C) the INVESTIGATOR expert. Your main task will be to find out who the most important mystery sleuths are and justify why they have become part of the history of crime fiction.

D) the ORGANIZATION expert. Your main task will be to collect and write down the information that your team mates find. In order to do that you can use any methods available but we encourage you to use ICT to organize the documents you are producing. Don't forget to make up a glossary with useful terms on this issue.

3. As a group, you will research mystery author lives, their novels and the characters involved in crime solving. Begin with a timeline overview that ALL members in the group should read the MysteryNet.com history timeline.

If you need further information, you can try topmystery.com or a general browser such as google.com .

4. Ask yourself the following questions:

Who are the prominent authors of the mystery genre?

What research tools will help you to gather clues and facts about each author and his/her past?

How will you organize the clues, important facts, interesting information, etc. that you collect?

Go to Organization Techniques for suggestions on organizing your data

5. If you want to know how you will be evaluated, go to evaluation and self-evaluation.

6. Read the message NSY have sent you.

7. Conduct your research so that you can find the missing authors in the list. Before going on working, show your findings to your teacher. Then send a letter with you answers to NSY.

8. Each group should agree on the novels they are going to work on, at least two per group. Then all the groups have to meet and negotiate the assignment of the books.

9. Here you have some websites to begin with.

10. After data is collected, each expert will share with the group all data, facts, and information gathered.

11. Make groups of experts (As,Bs,Cs and Ds) and share your information.

12. As a group, you will then analyze the data and begin the process of creating your list.

13. The time has come for you to produce your OWN list. You can keep the number of novels or you can modify it. You can also choose to keep some of the titles, not all of them and in any case you are asked to justify your decisions.

14. Now you must show your work by means of a multimedia presentation. The product should include a well-stated reason of why the novel has been chosen, including a short biography of the author (presented by A), a clear explanation of the setting (presented by B),a portrait of the investigator (presented by C). D-members of each group could present a portfolio with the information gathered.
