Per a fer els Gingerbread biscuits necessitarem:
INGREDIENTS
  • 100 grams of butter
  • 350 grams of flour
  • 2 teaspoons of ginger
  • A pinch of salt
  • 175 grams of brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • Currants
  • 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda
  • 4 tablespoons of golden syrup
  • (A splash of milk)
EQUIPMENTS
  • A mixing bowl
  • A small bowl
  • Two tablespoons
  • One teaspoon
  • One fork
  • A rolling pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • Two baking trays
  • A Sieve
INSTRUCTIONS
  • Sift the flour, ginger and bicarbonate of soda into a mixing bowl. (When you measure with the spoon, use a level spoonful). Add the salt.
  • Cut the butter into chunks and add them. (Take butter out of the fridge at least 30 minutes before you use it).
  • Rub the butter into the flour with your fingers, until the mixture looks like fine breadcrumbs.
(Remember do this with clean, dry hands)
  • Stir the sugar into the mixture.
  • Break the egg into a small bowl. (Always use medium-sized eggs unless the recipe says something else).
  • Add the syrup to the egg and beat them together well.
(Heat your spoon in hot water before you measure syrup. It makes it easier for the syrup to slide off).
  • Stir the eggy mixture into the flour. (Mix everything together with a metal spoon until it makes a dough).
  • Sprinkle a clean work surface with flour and put the dough onto it.
  • Strech the dough by pushing it away from you.
  • Fold the dough in half. Continue to push, turn and fold until the dough is smooth.
  • Cut the dough in half. Sprinkle a little more flour onto your work surface. Roll each half until about 5mm thick.
  • Use cookie cutters to cut lots of shapes from the dough. (You can use any shape of cutter you like, one of the most popular is this-the ginger bread man).
  • Put the biscuits on the baking trays (Grease the baking trays and space out the uncooked biscuits, as they increase in size as they cook).
  • Decorate the gingerbread men with currants to represent eyes and buttons.
  • Bake them into the oven pre-heated to 190ºC (degrees), for 12 or 15 minutes. (The biscuits will turn golden brown).(Ask an adult to put and take the trays out to the oven)
  • Leave the biscuits on their tray for about five minutes to cool.
Then you can eat the biscuits.

The Gingerbread Man by Gerald Rose

This is the story of the “Gingerbread Man”

1 One day, an old woman makes a gingerbread man.

2 She puts him in the oven.

3 Suddenly, there’s a bang and oven door.

4 Old woman opens the door, and the gingerbread man jumps out.

- Run, run,

as fast as you can.

You can’t cath me,

I’m the gingerbread man!

5 The old woman runs after the gingerbread man.

- Stop!(cat sound).

- Run, run, …

6 An old man throws a hat at him. But the gingerbread man runs on.

- Stop! (rooster sound).

- Run, run, …

7 The baker throws a cake at him. But the gingerbread man runs on.

- Stop! (dog sound).

- Run, run,…

8 The miller throws a sack of flour at him.

But the gingerbread man runs on.

- Stop! (mouse sound).

- Run, run, ...

9 The farmer throws a carrot at him. But the gingerbread man runs on.

- Stop! (horse sound)

- Run, run,…

10The gingerbread man comes to a river and stops. He sees a fox.

- Hello!

11 - I can help you, says the fox.

- Jump on my tail.

12 - Stand on may back, and we’ll cross the river. So you won’t get wet.

13 - Sit on my head.

- Swim, swim,

as fast as you can.

You can’t catch me,

14 - Jump on my nose.

- I’m…the …

15 - SNAP!

No more GingerbreadMan.
