Introduction:
As the web page is written in Dutch, the teacher has to explain the instructions and the different controls to the students before starting the activities.
From these instructions the students start exploring the activities with increasing difficulty.

Observations:
Some students continue this activity at home or in their free time.

Lesson 2 : Builing with small cubes

Age:
8-9 years

Goals:

  • To make figures by folding papers.
  • To carry out a process from a set of codified instructions.

Lesson 3: Origami

Age:
8-9 years

Goals:

  • To construct figures by folding paper.
  • To carry out a process by following coded instructions.

Materials:

  • A computer with internet access.
  • Sheets of A4 paper.

Introduction:
The teacher gives the instructions the children have to follow to make the chosen figures.

Main part :
To challenge the students to interpret the used codes to indicate the different foldings of the paper.

Round up :
The birds they have made are used as a peace sign on the 30th January when the Non-Violence International Day is celebrated. Afterwards an exhibition of the made birds is put on in class.

Observations:
Some pupils have difficulties in imagining the results of the foldings in advance.
