ESCOLA SADAKO
BARCELONA

Activity addressed to 2nd graders (7 years old). This year it has been done with the 4th graders (9 years old)and also the 6th graders (11 years old).

Purpose:

· To see the relationship between Geometry and the world progress.
· To acquire general culture

Materials:

· Geometry story

Vocabulary:

· Geometry
· Round(ed) shape, triangle, square, rectangle, geometrical patterns

Development of the lesson:

Children have to look through the window (they see houses, trees, street lights,…) and the teacher makes them realize that there are
3-D shapes. What 3-D shapes do we see?

Children realize that some 3-D shapes nature has put there and others have been made by humans. In order to make them, humans have studied the 3-D shapes around them since prehistory.
Then the teacher tells the story to the pupils and he/she makes them aware that we can see Geometry everywhere.
The teacher tells the story allowing time for the children to comment on it and explaining that some people dedicate their life to the study of Geometry while others need to know a lot of Geometry in their jobs such as architects and engineers.
