Lesson 1: The pirate island

Aim:
To identify the position of a photographer from a photograph.

Materials:
Worksheet

Introduction:
The teacher comments on the images which appear on the worksheet with the pupils, emphasizing the interpretation of the symbols used.

Main part:
The pupils work on the task in small groups.

Round up:
Each group explains their proposal and the whole class decide on the best answers. This discussion is the most important part of the activity.

Observations:
The idea for this activity comes from the follopwing activity http://www.fi.uu.nl/toepassingen/00113/toepassing_rekenweb.html, the pupils couldn't do this activity directly as it is in Dutch.

Lesson 2: Where was the photograph taken?

Aim:
To identify from where a 3-d object is observed.

Materials:
Worksheet

Vocabulary:
In front, behind, right, left, above and below.

Main part:
The teacher hands out the worksheet with different exercises. Each exercise contains a picture of a 3-d object alongside a 2-d view of the same object. The pupils have to decide if the image is a frontal view, a view from behind, from below, etc.

Observations:
Some teachers commented that some pupils may have difficulties with this activity if they are unable to touch the photographed object. So, in the end we decided to let the pupils work on the original activity on the Internet, even though they do not understand the language.
