Palma de Mallorca

Xiurells are small pottery figures with a mothpiece added to the back which makes them into whistles. They constitute one of the most primitive and significant plastic expressions of Mallorca's folk art. Miró does sculptures inspirated in the xiurells.

The sickle is a tool used for doing the farm work. It is the symbol of the farmworkers rebellions.

Miró depicts a person with simple elements. The pitchfork is another typical element of the farmworkers.

In this sculpture the pitchfork appears again and for doing the head of this person he uses a frying pan, the egg is the eye and the bone is the mouth.
