The earthlies of Vacamorta, near La Bisbal, was during the fifties an important source of exploitations of clay at open sky, where large quantity of companies have seized the first matter. The activities that carried here, the extraction of argil and the ceramic manufacture, affected the economy of the zone. La Bisbal d'Empordà is known for its clay and as one of the main l productors of ceramic.
41 companies worked in the earthlies of Vacamorta in 1985 and smore than 500.000 Tm were extracted every year. In 1998, the zone of work was considerably diminished . But 656 250 m3 of material was allready removed.
The activity of the extraction caused different impacts on the environment. The exploitation's zone produces a clear visual impact. This results are obvious into the extraction's activity area and in the processing plant, where we can see the different freatic basses, piles of clay, rests of machines and wastes.
In the last twenty years, part of the earthlies were not used and the place became an unauthorized rubbish tip. People used to put domestic and industrial rubbish, toxic products which pollute the earth and the water.
Different celebrities, and also the artist Pere Noguera, were moved against the progressive degradation of the Vacamorta's earthlies. Pere Noguera did some of his works in this earthlies .
