DURING 60ies


André Ricard was born 18th June 1929 in Barcelona. He studied in the school Saint-Joseph with his brothers. In 1942 organized with some of his friends of the Lycée a workshop of handicrafts, they were constructing toys and later solt them. In the school he was not a great student, but he had the best notes in drawing. His father painted and made sculptur. The year 1950 he moved to London to built himself for an international company transport, he wanted to learn english and see how to work in an international company. There he discobered the Design.

André Ricard has been an important industrial designer. He is one of the introducers and propagators of a concept of design that looks for the improvement of the use of the daily objects. He humanized the design in order to made the objects comfortables and useful for daily simple activities, incorporating at the same time a simple, elegant and original form, far from superficial tendences. His creative and theoretical activity was important for the Spanish and Catalan design during the 60ies and the 70ies. He brought new visiont to the desginers and made the design a integral and positive elements of the society.
