The
IES Castell d'Estela is a High School in Amer, a village of the region
of La Selva in Catalonia. The school is not very big. We are about 300
pupils and 30 teachers. IES means School of Secondary Education. When
the pupils finish the Primary School at 12 and then they have to study
in the High School for 4 years. We call this type of studies ESO, Compulsory
High Education. In IES Castell d'Estela we study
ESO and also, when they are 16 it is possible to study for two more years.
We call this two years studies Batxillerat. There are four different Batxillerats
related to four different areas: Social and Human Sciences - Natural Sciences
- Technology - Arts. In Our school there are the four Batxillerats. The
Batxillerat is a two year course (first and second).
In the school there is a main building and two other smaller buildings. The school is surrounded by houses. The buildings are not new. The smaller ones were the buildings of an old Primary School. The main building was built in 1969. |
