The
pupils that study in IES Castell d'Estela are not all from Amer. Amer
is a little village and pupils from other different villages (Sant Feliu
de Pallerols, Les Planes d'Hostoles, Santa Coloma de Farners, Bescanó....)
of the same region come to study here.
Amer is in the Catalan region of La Selva, near Girona, in the middle of mountains. It has about 2400 inhabitants. It is more than 1000 years old. |
|
There
is a Benedictine Monastery, the Monsatery of Santa Maria d'Amer, consecrated
in 949. In spite of all the suffered destructions and modifications
made, we can still appreciate the structure of the church and some Romanesque
apses.

|
Next
to the Monastery there is a porticoed square, where all the Festivities
are held as well as the weekly open market and the dance of the giants.

|
The
people of the village used to work as farmers, but today there are some
Industries and a lot of people work in other cities. Like all little villages,
in Amer old traditions related with food or handicrafts survive.
There is a natural spring of effervescent water and a big Industry that bottles and sells this water. In our region there are some beautiful routes either for walking or for cycling, or both. |
