Before the colonization "in Canada" there were six tribes:

- the Haida where in the north in the actual queen charlotte islands and they were the only tribe of their language.

- The Tsimshian lived inside the country. They were divided in three different groups, but they spoke the same language. The three groups were: Gitksan, Skeena and Nisga'a.

- Nautka and Salish lived in Vancouer island. Nootka were at the west cost and the Salish at the east one.

- Finally between north's and south's tribes there were Kwakiull and Bella coola.
