WORK IN THE VILLAGES OF THE MARTIN RIVER CULTURAL PARK

Years ago, in Teruel province ther were many underground mines. We have read that in the year 1977 there were 4217 miners and nowadays there are about a thousand only.In this area mining work was very important. In the mines of Escucha, Utrillas and Andorra many men work.In Andorra there is only a sub terrain mine, whose name is Oportuna; it is going to be closed down soon. Now there are some coal pits, but extraction is done by heavy machinery and few pople work there. There is a Coal Power Station where the coal from the pits and mines is delivered; it belongs to ENDESA company and a lot of people work there. As there is not enough work in the mines, factories have been set up.

In Andorra there is a cardboard factory and another of clay files. In Escucha, one of the underground mines has been converted into a museum; also a huge factory has been set up, its name is Casting Ros, and it is employing a lot of people. In the little villages, people are sheep and goat shepherds; there are also others that work on the land and allotments. There are farms of pigs, of rabbits, etc.In the villages there are offices where people work, there is a school with teachers, and Health Centres with doctors and nurses. There are also builders, plumbers and electricians.
