The first habitat we visited was the Estuary. We collected some very smelly mud. We used trowels to see if we could find any life in the mud. |
Here is a picture of one of the groups looking in their bucket for Lugworms and Ragworms as well as types of shellfish. We didn't realise how much life was under our feet. |

Here is a picture of a Ragworm that we found in the mud. Some of the girls screamed! We could see why there were so many birds on the estuary with long beaks. They used them to dig deep and find these worms. |
This chart shows the birds found on the estuary at Conwy. We can see that their beaks are all different, meaning that they all catch different things. The Ringed Plover eats things just below the surface, while the Curlew or Black tailed Godwit dig deep to eat the worms. Maureen is pointing at a Lapwing as there were lots feeing on the Estuary. |
