PAINTING OUR COMENIUS WALL
We have been designing a mural to celebrate our Comenius Project. We have decided to create a painting of the wonderful environment around our school. Local artist Athena Durnell came to school to help us design our wall. Here is a picture of Athena starting the painting.

We decided to paint the Great Orme, the sea and Snowdonia to show what a beautiful place we live in. We have also shown the birds, plants and butterflies that are special in our area. First of all Athena painted the high wall, she had to use scaffolding.
Here are some of the things on our wall;Llywelyn and his faithful dog GelertWe also included some of the famous legends that we have written about and sent to our partner schools in Spain, France and Catalonia.

Here is a picture of the whole wall from top to bottom. You can see all the habitats and environments rolled into one.
This is the Peregrine falcon swooping to catch its prey. It nests near our school and we often see it outside our window.

These are two birds which we can see from the Great Orem. They are a Razorbill and a Gannet. They both dive to catch fish, the Razorbill while swimming and the gannet from the air.
Here are some of the flowers on the Great orme. Tbey include 'Bloody Cranesbill' and 'Sea Holly'. You can also see the rare butterflies called the Silver studded Blue and Dark Green Fritillary.

There are many birds on the mural, including these to specialities of Snowdonia. They are the 'Pied Flycatcher' and the Wheatear.
Here is a beautiful Buzzard soaring in the sky above Snowdonia. You can see the high mountains of Snowdon in the background.

In the sky above the mountains are two dragons fighting. They are the White Dragon and the Red Dragon who fought in a Welsh legend. The Red Dragon won and that is why it is on the Welsh flag.

We had an official opening to our mural. It was attended the mayor, the artist and was opened by Mr Alan Davies from Conwy RSPB Reserve. He cut the ribbon with a pair of scissors in front of the whole school and all the staff.
