RIVER'S HOUSE IN MARTINET

On February 5th we met the pupils of all 5 schools that form the ZER Baridà-Batllia to do a bicycle Educational Day.

We made use of the day to visit the river's house in Martinet. It's an installation of the Natural Park Cadí-Moixeró that allows us to know the ecosystem of the river.

In the river's house we can see the fluvial ecosystem : the principal course of the Segre river, bank's forest and the fauna that live there.

The river bank's forest that we have next to the river Segre is formed by: ash (fraxinus excelsior), black poplar (populus nigra), elm (ulmus minor) and alder (alnus glutinosa).

The fauna , that live there, are: brook trout (salmo trutta fario), Pyrenean desman (galemys pyrenaicus), otter (lutra lutra), grey heron (ardea cinerea), viperine snake (natrix maura), mallard (anas platyrhynchos), dipper (cinclus cinclus) and toad (bufo bufo).
The otter is an animal on the verge of extinction that now returns to the waters of the river Segre. If there are otters in a river it means that the water is very clean.
There is a part of the river's house that shows the instruments of fishing.
