? Universal’s Port Aventura

Universal’s Port Aventura is located in Vila-Seca i Salou, in the Tarragonès area. It is easy go to Port Aventura by car (using the motorway) or by train. Universal’s Port Aventura is open during all the summer period. In Port Aventura you can find hotels, and many different kind of restaurants.
Now, Port Aventura is the second amusement park of Europe, behind Disneyland París. But soon, Port Aventura will be the biggest amusement park of Europe, and it can be compared to Orlando, (Florida), in the U.S.
If you go to Port Aventura, you can see the Mediterranean fishing villages, the Imperial China houses, the Mexico Maya constructions, the wild Far West, or the Polynesia exoticism. But the star of Port Aventura is the Dragon Khan, an impressive roller coaster that runs at 110 kilometres per hour, and defies the gravity with eight turns of 360º, at 45 metres height. Other good attractions (the most visited), is the soak trip inside one volcano, and one descent between precipices.

? Montserrat
The Montserrat monastery is located in Monistrol de Montserrat, in the Vallés area. If you want to go to Montserrat you can take the road (the N-ll). There, you can find a lot of shops. In these shops you can buy one of the best curds of Catalonia and some souvenirs.
The massif of Montserrat is one of the most beautiful mountains of the country, and it is 1236 metres above sea level. This is a splendid location for the most venerated monastery of Catalonia: the Montserrat monastery, surrounded by chapels and hermitages.
The firsts signs of the Montserrat monastery are in the IX century. In the independence war this monastery was demolished and all their monks were killed. It was rebuilt in 1844 and then it was floodlight of the Catalan culture during the Franco regime. Now, Benedictines monks live in the monastery.
The little wood image of the Moreneta is the soul of Montserrat. The people say that the Moreneta was made by Saint Lucas, and Saint Peter took it in our country in the year 50. In the XIII century, during the Muslim invasion of the peninsula, the Moreneta was hid in the "Cova Santa" (Holy Cave), to save it of destruction. The carbon 14 proof says that it was made in the XII century. In 1812, black Our Lady of Montserrat was appointed the mistress of Catalunya.

Poblet Monastery
The Santa Maria of Poblet Monastery was founded by Ramon Berenguer IV in 1157. Poblet is located in a isolated valley near from the Francolí springs. The Poblet’s abbey is very close to Montblanc (Tarragona). You can go to Poblet by car. It is open from 8h to 18h the working days and in Sundays and holidays from 8.30h to 10h and from 13h to 18h.
Poblet has got a very interesting meeting room, with wonderful columns and a splendid pew for the monks. In the floor there are 11 tombs of abbots dead from 1393 from 1693. Poblet has got more beautiful things. It has got a big alabaster altarpiece from 1527 holded by Romanesque columns. The magnificent arched cloisters were from the XII and XIII centuries and they are the monks life centre. These cloisters have got very good decorated capitals. These capitals have got beautiful spirals. Poblet has got important real tombs, too. These tombs are located in the real pantheon, built in 1359 and rebuilt in 1950.

? Tarragona
Today, Tarragona is the province capital. Also has got an important free port, at the same time that preserves a lot of things from its roman past, when Tarragona was the Tarraconense’s capital. It is very easy go to Tarragona, through the A-7 motorway or through the road.
In the Rambla Nova Avenue we find the Balcó d’Europa enclosed balcony. There, we can see the impressive roman amphitheatre ruins, where you can enter later. Very near, there is another interesting building: the Santa Maria del Miracle church. Not much far, in the Rei Square we can see the Praetorium, a roman tower that in the Middle Ages was converted in a palace. At the moment, inside the Praetorium we find the Romanitat Museum, that preserves roman and medieval objects. Through this museum we can enter into the Tarragona roman circus, built in the I century b.C. The Nacional Arqueològic Museum is very interesting, too. It has got the most valuable roman objects collection of Catalonia.
One of the other important roman rests is the wall, good preserved and made by very big stones. Behind the wall we find the Tarragona’s cathedral, built over a roman temple dedicated to Júpiter. The outside part of the cathedral has got very different kinds of styles and inside, there is a beautiful altarpiece dedicated to Santa Tecla made by Pere Joan in 1434.
In the west part of the city we find the Sant Fructuós roman cemetery, of the III-VI centuries. In this cemetery there are some interesting sarcophagus.
Near Tarragona there are two interesting places, too: the Ferreres Aqueduct and the Berà Triumphal Arch. The Ferreres Aqueduct is very close to the city, besides the A-7 motorway. This aqueduct is from the II century and was built to carry water from the Gayà River to Tarraco (Tarragona). The Berà Triumphal Arch is besides the N-340 road. It is a triumphal arch of the Via Augusta from the first century.

? Barcelona
Barcelona is the Catalonia’s capital. A lot of roads and motorways go to Barcelona. It has got a good service of buses and underground.
In Barcelona there are a lot of interesting things to do and many places to go.
In the gothic area we find the cathedral with the Santa Eulàlia treasures, the Lepant Crist and the "Ou com Balla", the Rei Square subterranean, that has got the city history, the Montcada Street, the most beautiful street of Barcelona, with museums, art galleries, etc. and the Santa Maria del Mar church.
In the Eixample you have to do the modernist tour across the "Quadrat d’Or", when you can see modernist houses (Pedrera). Also you must see the Sagrada Familia, the Gaudí’s work that is the Barcelona’s symbol.
In Montjuïc you can see the Romanesque and Ghotic collection of the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya and the Olympic Ring.
The Pedralbes Monastery is the most beautiful monastery of Barcelona. It has got a wonderful collection: The Thyssen collection.
The Ciutadella and Collserola parks are the lungs of the city and in the Ciutadella Park we can find the Barcelona Zoo, the only zoo that has got an albino gorilla, "Floquet de Neu" (Snow Flake).
In the Tibidabo we find the best amusement park of the city.
The cable-car that crosses the port, the commercial centre Maremaugnum, the Aquarium and the panoramic screen of the IMAX (Port Vell) are the best things of the port.
There are more beautiful things in Barcelona that any tourist has to visit: the Colon monument, the F.C. Barcelona stadium, the Camp Nou (one of the biggest in the world), the Güell Park (another Gaudí’s marvel), etc. but there are so much, that we would never finish. That’s why we stop here.

? Seaside
Catalonia has got a lot of beaches because it is located at the side of the see. The best coasts are the Costa Daurada and the Costa Brava.
The Costa Daurada includes all the beaches of the Tarragona’s seaside, and it is called Costa Daurada for its long sand beaches. Two good ports that continue working are the Vilanova i la Geltrú and the El Vendrell. But the most famous ressorts are Salou and Cambrils.
The Costa Brava has 200 km of coast, between Blanes and the Empordà. In the Costa Brava there are sanded coves with pines at the background, golden beaches and a lot of tourist centres. The most important villages located in the South are Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar (with the impressive castle) and Platja d’Aro. Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Palamós have got others economic activities besides the tourism. Inland, there are some interesting villages: Peratallada, Peralada or Pals. Other important villages are Cadaqués, Roses (with the largest beach of the Costa Brava), L’Escala, or l’Estartit, with the beautiful Illes Medes (that have got the best sea fauna of Catalonia).

? Girona
Girona is the province capital. It is on the banks of the Onyar river. We can see the different colours houses reflected in the river. Behind, in the Llibertat Avenue, we find the most of the shops and the bars of the city.
A lot of the houses were built in the XIX century to replace the wall holes that were damaged in 1809 during the seven months of the French troops siege. Almost the rest of the roman wall is untouched, and you can see it in the Passeig Arqueològic (Archaeological Walk), that borders Girona.
In the north part of the city we find the Sant Pere de Galligants church. Today, there is an archaeologist museum in this church. The most devotional temple for the inhabitants of Girona is the Sant Feliu church. This church was built in the XIV century over the tombs of Saint Fèlix and Saint Narcís, patrons saints of the city. Girona has got a beautifull Arabian Bath, built in the XII century. These baths have got an impressive octagonal lantern that illuminates the baths. This baths are completely restored.
In the old town there is a beautiful old Jewish neighbourhood, partiality restored. In this area we find the Centre Bonastruç Ça Porta Museum that shows the history of the Jews of Girona, that were thrown out in the XV century.
One of the best sights of Girona is its cathedral. This building is gothic, except the west façade, that it is catalan baroque. The main nave, built in 1416, is the biggest gothic nave of the world. This building has got a beautiful altarpiece. This altarpiece, with silver and precious stones, is the most beautiful of Catalonia of its style. But the best thing of the cathedral is the "La Creació" (The Creation) tapestry made in the XI century and in very good condition.
The Museu d’Art (Art Museum) and the Museu d’Història de la Ciutat (City History Museum) are two museums that everybody must visit.

? Garrotxa Volcanoes and Jordà Beech Grove
The volcanic area of Olot has got approximately thirty well preserved volcanic cones, and river valleys flooded by lava currents, where approximately well up one hundred springs. The most famous is the Moixina Font.
The most beaautiful volcanoes are the Santa Margarida volcano, with an hermitage in the middle of de cone, and the Croscat volcano, one of the biggest and very close to the Santa Margarida volcano and the Jordà Beech Grove.
The rains are very abundant in the Garrotxa zone because it has got oceanic climate. These persistent rains produce an exuberant vegetation, as the Jordà Beech Grove, a genuine paradise for the nature lovers.
The Jordà Beech Grove is located in Santa Pau, very close to Olot. It is a landscape with contrasts, and with a big aesthetic attraction. The abundant vegetation hides the solidified lave of the last eruption of the Croscat, 11.500 years ago. You can visit the Jordà Beech Grove by cart. This service only works the weekends and holidays, and you can take this cart in the beech grove car park.

? Santes Creus Monastery
We find the most beautiful monastery of the Cistery Triangle (Santes Creus, Poblet and Vallbona de les Monges) in the little village of Santes Creus. Santes Creus is very close to Poblet.
Ramón Berenguer IV founded the Santes Creus Monastery in 1150. It has got a long history and for this reason, its style, goes from the gothic to the baroque. The most beautiful thing of the monastery is the cloister. This cloister is from 1313 and has got very nice figured sculptures. Also the Porta Reial (Real Door) is beautiful. Trough this door, we enter at the three monastic areas. The Santes Creus church is from the XII century. In the church we find the Jaume II tomb (1291-1327), together with the tombs of other Catalan nobles.

? Nuria’s Valley
Nuria’s Valley is a privileged place of the Catalan geography, where tradition, religion, leisure and sport are blended. You can arrive in Nuria only by walking, using the old path to Nuria, or by the zip train, that leaves Ribes de Freser and covers a route with an irregularity of 1000 metres.
The Nuria’s Valley is one of the best tourist destinations for the mountain lovers. During the winter, Nuria is an important sky resort. During the summer, in this peaceful and quiet place you can drive a dinghy by the Nuria’s lake, you can visit the Nuria’s Chapel, the Sant Gil’s Chapel, etc.

? Molina-Masella
In the Pirineus we find a lot of sky resorts; Baqueira Beret, VallTer 2.000, etc., but for closeness and importance, we talk of the Molina and the Masella. Alp 2.500 is the name that will have the merger of the sky resorts of the Molina and the Masella. Alp 2.500 will be the most important and biggest sky resort of Spain, with more than one hundred kilometres of sky slope. Moreover, this sky resort has got the biggest sky slope of the Catalan Pirineu, with 6,8 kilometres. Alp 2.500 has got a cable-car that leaves from the Molina, at 1.700 height above the see level and finishes at the Tosa d’Alp, at 2.500 metres of altitude. This cable-car can transport 1.500 persons per hour.

? Banyoles
In Banyoles there is a beautiful lake. The Banyoles lake is two kilometres long, it is 20 metres deep in average and it has a surface of one million of square metres. Its perimeter is six kilometres long. In ancient times, the lake occupied the entire Pla de l’Estany zone, but now, it is smaller.
Is very pleasant to walk around the lake and to see the lake at different places. We recommend to take a boat and sail in the lake while the speaker tell you the history and the curiosities of the Banyoles lake.
Very close to the lake, at the bank of it, we find the beautiful Romanesque Santa Maria de Porqueres church, built in the XII century, constantly reflected on the waters of the lake.
The Pudosa Spring is very famous, too. The Comarcal of Banyoles Museum has got an interesting collection of prehistoric things, besides collections of XIV and XVII centuries pottery pieces.

The Pudosa Spring is very famous, too. The Comarcal of Banyoles Museum has got an interesting collection of prehistoric things, besides collections of XIV and XVII centuries pottery pieces.
Close to Banyoles, we find the Estunes. The Estunes are cracks in the ground caused by the lake a lot of years ago. They have got an important geologic value because they contain a lot of fossils.
