WHERE TO IN
ARENYS DE MUNT

The Corredor:

It is a part of the Natural Park of Montnegre and Corredor. In the Corredor there is a shrine built in the XVI century upon a previous temple. In this shrine, we can remark the belfry square tower, finished with embattlements and with four elegant gargoyles. From the Corredor, we can contemplate, in the east, the Montnegre, the neighbour massif, that has got a more rugged relief and it is 773 metres above sea level. The most abundant trees in the Corredor’s zone are the stone pines and the holm oaks.

When the wood becomes denser, this is the best habitat for the biggest mammal that lives in these areas: the wild boar.

In autumn and with rain we have the best conditions for the mushrooms to growth, and in some periods they are very abundant (lactarius, "pinetells", "rossinyols", "carlets", etc.).

If you want more information about the Corredor you can go to the Corredor Information Centre. The Corredor Information Centre is in the temple area. It is open on Sundays and holidays, from 11 to 15 hours. There, you can find information about the park, signpost itineraries, sale of publications, and information services.

The Infern dolmen was built on 3000 b/C. approximately. The dolmen is in one foothills of the Vilanegre Hill, in the Montalt mountain range.

Three upright stones and one big flagstone compose this funeral monument. This dolmen is orientated at the east, and it is in the middle of a dense mass of pines and holms oaks. The dolmen did not give pottery pieces, and for this reason, it is difficult to locate it in the time. In spite of that, the scientists believe that the dolmen is from the last period of the Neolithic. The specialists qualify this work as a "paradolmen", because its back part lean directly on the mountain.

Around the dolmen we can see some stone blocks that form one artificial platform, that probably was build to hold the dolmen, due to the pronounced slope of the mountain.

The farmhouse of Ca l’Arquer is in the foot of the l’Arquer Hill (347 m.), in the headwater of the Vallalta "riera".

Ca l’Arquer has got an important hypogeum from the XI century. The entrance of the hypogeum is in the cellar. It is 8 metres deep, and has a round room in the end. There is a big pillar in the middle of the room, and also, it has got a bench dug on the stone, that surrounds the room. In the room’s hall you can see seven worked urns and one catharist cross, that it is 70 cm. tall. There are some people who say that there is another hypogeum that was covered. But this theory is not proved.

This farmhouse was restored not long ago, but it still preserves some elements of the previous constructions. Some of these preserved elements are two gothic windows. One of these windows shows an easy noted arch, without any decoration. The other window has got two animal’s relief in the lateral jambs. The two windows are from the XV century.

Underneath the main hall there is a silo, that is covered by one flagstone. This silo is dug in the gravel and it has got polish walls. Because of its dimensions and its shape, this silo is probably a roman silo.

Can Sala de Baix is a farmhouse located in the industrial zone of Arenys de Munt, to the right of the Torrent d’en Puig. This farmhouse is from the XVI century. At the beginning, this beautiful farmhouse, had the structure of the typical farmhouses, big houses where the farmers lived in the ground floor with the animals and the field tools. The owners lived in the first floor.

In the last restoration the restorer try to give the house its initial shape: in the first and the second floor, the windows replaced the balconies. These windows were made with some preserved stones and with other stones than were found out near the house.

The house has got two lateral sections, and both are archways. Before the several restorations, there was also a bath behind the house. There is a chapel connected to the main building. This chapel was restored, too, and has got an altarpiece dedicate to Santa Eugenia.
