The water and the Latin

In Catalunya, there are villages which name has Latin origin  and it is related to the water . Here there are some examples:

- Caldes de Malavella

- Caldes  de Montbui

- Caldes d'Estrac

- Escaldes (Andorra)

- Caldes de Boi

The old Romans, when they arrived to a place where there were thermal waters they founded a town quickly. For this reason the villages named above began all with the prefix “calde” (it comes from  the Latin word “caledae”). They were founded by the Romans because they had and they have thermal waters.

That happened because for the Romans, thermal waters were very important, for healthy and amusement. They built thermal baths where they had a bath. They felt well (the same as us), because it rehabilitated them, and they said that it cured them of some illnesses.

The thermal baths had three pools, one of cold water, another of warm water and another of hot water. If we notice, the villages which have named previously, nowadays have very similar spas as the Romans had.

A part from Catalunya, there are similar villages mainly in countries like Portugal.

Furthermore the villages related to the thermal waters, there are also ones connected  with the normal water. They are villages like:

- Acqua (to Genova)

- Acqua Loreto (Italy)
