There was/were

There was va seguit d'un substantiu singular i there were va seguit d'un substantiu plural. Totes dues formes es tradueixen 'hi havia'.

 
There was a party at school. (Hi havia una festa a l’escola.)
  There were twenty students. (Hi havia vint estudiants.)
