Properties of industrial materials: Mechanical properties

Aim: The aim of the lesson is to introduce the different mechanical properties through slides and familiarise learners with them, as well as practising the vocabulary and structures related with the topic

Teaching objectives

  • General view of mechanical properties. C1-C2
  • Definition of hardness, toughness, plasticity, and compression, tension, bending, torsion and shearing (stresses). C1-C2
  • Along with the nouns, the related adjective will be also taught as well as the definition and with the support of a visual element. C2-C3

Learning outcomes

  • Knowing the name of mechanical properties and its translation into L1. C1-C2
  • Identifying mechanical properties in real life objects. C3
  • Classifying mechanical properties depending on the kind of stress exerted they are made of. C3
  • Comparison mechanical properties. C2-C3

Resources

The students will have a handout with the printout of the power point presentation explained by the teacher.

Evaluation

  • While they are working in pairs the teacher will evaluate their work walking around the class.
  • When results are checked with the plenary the teacher will see how they have been working.
  • At the end of the lesson the teacher will think about what worked well and what didn’t.
