- In the music area
Songs obtained by searching the data base constitutes materials that can be used in the classroom. Songs are used to sing or to be played in a musical instrument or just as a resource to easily listen and learning them.
Songs can also be used for score analysis or as starting point for building simple harmonic works or accompaniments in traditional paper support as well as computer support.
As other digital documents these files can be handled and modified by teachers to meet particular needing.
In the RTEE project you can find documents that suggests you ideas for working. Here follows a list of activities that can be made by using a song:
- Change the tone in some notes introducing wrong tones.
- Change the length of a note introducing wrong duration.
- Change the order of musical phrases or periods and ask to reconstruct the song .
- Take some times or phrases out for the students to complete the blanks .
- Change from major to minor mode or vice versa.
- Change the tonality to appreciate the effect of tonal changing.
- Make a tonic/dominant accompaniment.
- Make an ostinato accompaniment .
- Make different kind of variations: rhythmic, melodic …
- Change the original tone-colour.
- Works in other areas
Songs also have other educational uses in other subjects of knowledge:
- Social sciences
Songs can be a motivating element to knowing more about countries through theirs music. Song can also be a colour brush-stroke in the study of a country's geography, culture and history. Popular songs are identifying signs of nations.
- Languages
In this data base the text of the songs has been kept in its original language, so, you'll find songs written in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese … only to name some close-to-us languages. Songs can be a resource to make more appealing the comprehension and learning of a language
Suggestions to the students
If you have hardware enough to allow students to access at the Internet site then they can search the data base to create musical works or to pick up songs for singing, playing an instrument or inserting into their own works.
