Elisenda de Montcada

When Elisenda de Montcada was still a child, a very charming page of about her age told Elisenda that he wanted to marry her. The girl said to him that they could marry when they'd grew up, since marriage was for older people. The years went on and the page and Elisenda grew older, too. One day, the page said to the girl what he had told her years ago, but she answered that she had to marry a knight.

By that time there was a war against the Moslems. The page fought with such courage that he got enough titles and honours to be able to marry Elisenda. The page went back home and told the lady of Montcada about his adventures while in war and his titles, but she replied that the king wanted to marry her, and that she didn't want to renounce it.

The page, brokenhearted, went back to war, and won more titles. The years had passed, and he knew that the king had died. He headed to Barcelona, and this time the widow queen told him that she had decided to be a nun. Elisenda went to the Pedralbes' convent.

The sad knight then become a confessor, since it was the only way to get close to her.On a very beautiful morning a knight-monk knocked on the door of Pedralbes' convent. When a nun opened it, he said that he wanted to confess Elisenda, but the nun, with tears in her eyes, told him that she had died.
