Subway
It is open 24 hours a day and it is quite safe although it is better not to travel at night.
You need to buy a MetroCard or a weekly pass, if you are going to make several journeys during your stay.
Bus
Buses are slower than the subway but they are a nice way to see the city for a reasonable fare.
The service is quite regular and usually they are not overcrowded.
Walking
Finding your way in New York is really easy: there are 11 avenues that run north-south and the streets run east-west, from 14th St. in the south to 225th St. in the north.

Taxi
New York taxis are yellow and fast and will take you anywhere.
You can tell when a taxi is free by the lights in the panel.
