Lesson Plan 11

Warm Up

We come out into the corridor and we look at our tiles. We go over again the differences between the Vicens House and the School of Art.

We pay attention again to the differences between the function of their tiles (decorative in the Vicens House and functional in the School of Art).

1.

School of Art

We explain to the children that Mackintosh placed coloured tiles on the walls of the ArtSchool staircases to help guide students and staff around the building.

2.

We organise ourselves in groups of four and each group has to think about a pattern for a tile to help the school visitors to move around the school. At the school’s hall there will be a legend explaining where each tile will carry.

3.

Children in each group have to draw the same pattern, following Mackintosh designs they have to draw a geometric pattern.

Before that, we go to the ICT room and our pupils make some mosaics online to help them with their patterns.

4.
Back to class and in their groups again they draw their patterns.
5.

We ask them to make two squares using A3 size paper and then they have to draw their pattern on them.
