Alexandre de Riquer is one of the most important and multi-faceted artists of the Catalan Art Nouveau.

Alexandre de Riquer was born in Calaf in 1856.

Because of political circumstances he was forced into exile in Béziers in Provence with his family in 1869.

In Béziers, he revealed his first artistic sensibilities and painted his first oils.

They left Béziers and went to Toulouse, France and Riquer took courses at the School of Fine Arts.

In April 1874, Riquer was able to return to Barcelona, where he enrolled in the Llotja School of Fine Arts.

In 1876, at the age of twenty, he began his first work as an illustrator and lithographic draftsman.

He travelled to Rome in 1879 to complete his studies in fine arts, visiting in addition Pisa, Florence, Genova, Milan, and Venice. Later on, he visited Paris and London.

In 1896, Riquer created the first poster of the Catalan Art Nouveau. Later, between 1896 and 1902, he created another twenty odd posters.

He died in Ciutat de Mallorca in 1920.
