Maria-Mercè Marçal

a poet woman

Llengua abolida is a poetry book which was written by Maria-Mercè Marçal. This woman poet was born in 1952 in Barcelona (Catalonia), but she grew up in Ivars d´Urgell (Lleida, Catalonia). She likes to say: "I was born in Ivars d´Urgell".

The book is the complete poetic works. This literary work is made up of seven books:

   Cau de llunes (1973-1976).

   Bruixa de dol (1977-1979).

   Sal oberta (1982).

   Escarsers (l980-1982).

Terra de Mai (book included afterwards in La germana, l´estrangera), (1982).

   La germana, l´estrangera (1981-1984).

   Desglaç (1984-1988).

Her last poetic book was Raó del cos, published in 2000, several years after her death, 5 of July 1998.

Her emblem is:

I give thanks, at random, three gifts: I was born woman,

of the working class and oppressed nation.

I give thanks to cloudy azure to be three times rebel.

Her word is the word of woman. Of woman involved with other women. She, in her poetry, in her word, talks about passion. Maria-Mercè Marçal, in her strength, looks for passion in a sea without railings, in a sky without boundary mark. Her word is the word of a woman poet. Offered word.

Her narrative skills take on Viratges, reminiscències (1990), La passió segons Renée Vivien (1994) and “ Jocs de màscares” (this story was published in Dones soles. 14 contes, in 1995).
