TASK 1

 

AIMS

  • Consider general aims of unit 1. 
  • Get familiar with the word processor basic functions. 
  • Expand vocabulary related to personal descriptions. 
  • Review subject-verb agreement and possessive and object pronouns. 

PROCEDURE

  • Change a model text so that it describes yourself rather than “Christopher”. 
  • Save the new document in a personal file and let other students read it. 
  • Check grammar points in web sites.

Read the description about Christopher, and then follow the instructions.  
  
  
Christopher

My name's Christopher. I'm 16 years old and I come from Lancaster, England. I live at home with my famili:  my mather, my father, my brother and sister and my goldfish. I have lots of hobbies. I like football and swimming, and I sometimes go fishing with my friends at the wekend. I'm still at school. I'm in the fifth year at a very big comprehensive school. There are about 2,000 piupils there. I'm not sure what I'm going to do when I live school”.   
 

  
  •  Instructions: 
  1. Read the text.

  2. Open a word processor. Create a file in the hard disk or in a floppy disc, and name it “unit1”. Select the text and copy it using the Copy and Paste functions (menu Edit). Change the facts to fit your own circumstances and save it in your personal file as “uni1tas1” (menu File). (To read the instructions on the Web page and use the word processor at the same time you should alternate both applications: the browser and the word processor). To do this use Minimize (button on the top right-hand corner) and Maximize (applications bar menu at the bottom). 
  3. Replace “I” with “he” or “she” using the Find and Replace facilities of your word processor (menu Edit).
  4. Correct subject-verb agreement and possessive and object pronouns. If you have any doubts you can visit the following web sites:

  6. Copy and save the information from these grammar pages and paste them in your personal file. Save the first one as “S-Vagre" and the second as “pronouns” (in folder unit1).
  7. Check spelling using the Spelling facility (menu Tools)
  8. Delete your name from the text.
  9. Save  changes again in your floppy disk.
  10. Print the new text, exchange floppies or display the texts on networked screens so that other students can guess who each text is describing (ask your teacher).
