ENERGY SAVING

Being aware of how much energy we use is being on the way to using less"

The students of 4th ESO from IES Sòl-de-Riu in Alcanar (Spain) are concerned about saving energy.

They agree that energy saving is one of the most significant habits to protect our planet and preserve its natural enviroment.

Here you can find some work they have prepared to make you think about this question and, maybe,

you will become an energy saver after watching it.

Sit down, relax and enjoy the show!

1. Conference "Energy use and climate change".

Francesc Castells, from Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona (Spain) delivered a speech at the IES Sòl-de-Riu in Alcanar, about the global warming and gives some tips to reduce it. Our students have edited a summary which includes subtitles in English for people from other countries.

2. Interview "Are you an energy saver?"

A group of students interviewed some people from our school about the energy saving question. The survey focused on the energy saving at home, where our students spend most of their time.

Watch the PPT file with the results.

3. Advertisment. What do we do?

Xavi Subirats and Axel Sorolla from IES Sòl-de-Riu in Alcanar prepared this advert to make you think about the energy saving question.

Xavi and Axel completed their work with a poster (in Catalan) which hangs in our school.

4. Advertisment. What I've done!

Andrei Pilu and Jordi Sancho from IES Sòl-de-Riu in Alcanar edited this video where being an energy saver is just the beginning of the story ...

5. Advertisment. What I've done! (ppt version)

The PPT version of the video goes even further ... just watch it!

6. Advertisment. It's too late to apologize.

Andrei Pilu and Jordi Sancho insist on the energy saving theme and show you several things you could do to to protect the enviroment.

Let's hope it's not too late for it.

Andrei Pilu and Jordi Sancho have also prepared this poster that can be seen in the classes of 4th ESO.

7. Comic strips. Energy saving at home.

Sara Juan and Pavel Ambros drew this comic strip which contains the energy saving tips that should be followed when being at home. Their work hangs in the wall of the 4th A ESO class.

Victor Perez and Silvia Sancho did the same in the 4th B ESO class.

8. Short film. The greenhouse effect.

A group of students from IES Sòl-de-Riu in Alcanar performed a play where they tried to offer an easy explanation of what the greenhouse effect is (the play is based on a cartoon which appears in the famous Al Gore's "An inconvenient truth").

9. Short film. "L'efecte hivernacle i el canvi climàtic".

Here you can watch another play based on the same idea as the previous one but carried out by a different group of students (3rd ESO group). In this case, the play was performed live at the Christmas Festival 2008 and some music was added to give a musical-style to the story. This version is only in Catalan, but if you are not a Catalan speaker, please, watch before the other play and you will understand this one as well.

10. Physics experiment. Small cars powered by hydrogen.

The students in the Aula Oberta at IES Sòl-de-Riu in Alcanar experimented with another source of fuel to move cars, the hydrogen gas. It is easy to obtain and it does not pollute the atmosphere so, why are not we using it? Easy question with a difficult answer.

Here the results of the pratice are

Thank you for your attention and, please, could you ask yourself the question again "Are you an energy saver?"
