The Tovshoejskolen school is a
Danish primary and lower secondary school (a "Folkeskole") situated
in Brabrand in the west of Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark. The school is architecturally divided into 6 "houses". 5 of these are classroom-houses and the 6th is for leisure-time care facilities. In addition to these we have science/physics/chemistry rooms, home economics facilities, a woodwork/metalwork room, an art room, a sports centre, a swimming pool, a library, a canteen, dentist's and doctor's facilities and a sports ground/playing field. |

The school educates pupils from
1st to 10th class/grade (app. 6 to 16 year-olds) where the 10th class/grade
is an internationally focused senior year, based on theatre activities and
attracting pupils from all over Aarhus. Our 5 reception classes for newly arrived foreigners educates 13-17 year-olds divided into the following 5 classes: 1 class for pupils with an education equivalent to Danish children in that age group, 1 class for beginners, 2 middle group classes and an all-girl's class. In addition, we educate 4 classes of physically handicapped children from all over the Aarhus County Council district (the "Amt"). The school has app. 60% pupils of bilingual origin, mainly Arabic, Turkish and Somali. Amongst the pupils (both Danish and bilingual) there is a deficiency of elementary qualifications needed to begin in the Danish Folkeskole. These deficiencies have to be compensated for, while fulfilling the requirements in the Danish Folkeskole's law and regulations. |
|
The school currently employs 58 teachers, including 2 in charge of foreign mother-tongue teaching, 1 teacher with Arabic backgrounds attached to the staff of our reception classes, 2 preschool/nursery class (5 year-olds) leaders and 1 preschool/nursery assistant. | |
