Christmas in Denmark - sent from "Karens Class"
Calendercandle:

We light on the candle each day from the first of December to the 24. of December.

Adventswreath:

We light on one candle each Sunday, the last four Sundays before Christmas Eve. The Sunday before Christmas Eve we light on all four candles.

Presentcalendar:

In many homes in Denmark, children have a presentcalendar. The parents buy 24 presents and put them on a presentcalendar. Then the child opens one present each day. In our Class we have a present calendar and each day one pupil gets a present.

Christmas candy:

Recipe:  250 g. oatmeal  - 200 g. sugar - 50 g. cocoa - 100 g. melted margarine - 12 spoonful of cold coffee.

You mixed it all, then you make small balls and rool it in sugar and put them in a cold place.

Christmas stories:

In Denmark we have many Christmas stories and the children like very much that we read them. The stories is about how "Nisser" helps the one who is good to them, and how they tease people who is bad to them.

"NISSEN JULIANE":

The "Nisse" on the picture is a very special "Nisse". Her name is JULIANE. She normaly lives in Karens home, but in December she visits all the pupils in CB.

Christmastree:

In Denmark we  Christmas Eve have a Christmas tree in our livingroom. We decorate the tree with many diferent Christmas decoration and we put presents under the tree. The Christmas dinner is often turkey or  roast pork, and for dessert we eat "rise a la mande". It is cold rice porridge mixed with vanilla and whipped cream, and on the top we put cherry sauce.

After eating the dinner we are holding each others hands and walk around the tree, while we are singing Christmas songs. Then we opens the presents. In some homes there are one adult dressed out like Santa Claus and it is he who brings the presents in a big sack.
