A TOURIST AT THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA. STUDENT'S ACTIVITY 1.

The activity has been divided into different stages or parts. Read the instructions carefully and then do as you are told.

Part 1.

Make up groups of 3 or 4 people. Then imagine you are friends, you have won the lottery and have decided to take a trip to Morocco. You must choose the most suitable holiday for you. Find the best offer on the Internet. You can also get some brochures from a travel agency.

Choose a 7-day trip and print the offer.

Part 2

When you have chosen your trip, try to classify it into one of the following categories:
A
A luxury trip to Morocco. Luxurious hotels with a swimming pool, spa and golf course nearby or among the hotel facilities.

B
A tourist pleasure trip. 4 star hotels at least. With a swimming pool. Visiting the most important cities by coach or train. Half board (breakfast and dinner included in the price). Trip to Morocco by plane.

C
An adventure trip. We’ll sleep in ‘haimas’ and tents. Visiting the Atlas, the main cities and the desert. Traditional food with a native cook. Shopping from ‘souks’ (local markets). Last night in a hotel. Travelling by plane and 4x4.

D
A trip on our own. By car or train from the peninsula. Lodging in cheap local hotels or private houses. Traditional food with a native cook. Shopping from ‘souks’ (local markets). We’ll hire native guides to go to the desert. Travelling by train, car o 4x4.

Now answer the following questions:

1. What kind of trips were more usual on the internet?

2. Tourism brings foreign money into a country. Who do you think will get the money from your trip? Who will benefit from your money? You can tick four options.

Hotel owners and businessmen.
Golf course owners and businessmen.
The people who work in hotels.
Flying companies.
Guides and drivers.
The ‘souk’ traders.
Small local shopkeepers.
The average people in the street.

3. Do you think your trip will cause a high or low emission of CO2. Why?

4. Optional activity: Did you know that most of the hotel owners are not from the country you are going to visit? Find hotel chains all over the world with the same or a similar name.
