What is dance? |
In dance there are five basic actions: ~ Travelling: moving through general space. ~ Turning : a movement involving rotation around an axis. ~ Jumping: taking off into the air and landing. ~ Gesture : a movement which does not involve transference of weight (no travelling). ~ Stillness : the ability to stop and control the body. In order to develop the basic actions the teacher must ask herself and pupils three questions: Where are you moving? Space How are you moving? Weight (effort) and time (strong/light); (quick/ slow) With whom are you moving? Relationship The factors of space, weight and time are involved within every movement. |
What is a ceilidh? |
According to David and May Ewart (1996) “A Ceilidh usually includes a piper, singers, highland dancers, poetry or indeed anyone or anything which makes up a Scottish social evening, and is normally followed by a dance”. |
What is a ceilidh dance? |
David and May Ewart (1996 ) define it as “A dance which includes popular Scottish traditional dances and some old-time dances; a modern waltz or a quickstep can even find their way into the programme”. |
