25th December: Christmas is the Christian holiday (party) most popular, in spite of that the Church thinks that Easter is more important. Nevertheless, as it’s so popular, it's the one that contains more traditions:
- Christmas cribs, or nativity scenes, consist of the representation of the birth of Jesus Christ, by means of a model of Bethlehem and its surroundings. The principal figures are the stable where it is supposed Christ was born, the Holy Family, the animals and the shepherds, also three kings from the Far East and a star with a stela, which we can also find paced on the top of the Christmas tree.
- Christmas carols are songs or allusive singings to Christ's birth or to the Holy Family.
- The Christmas tree consists of a coniferous tree decorated with shining colourful balls, stars, etc.
- Christmas Cards: Special cards that family and friends exchange to wish the best in those days, even though, nowadays the telephone and internet are finishing off the tradidion.
- Christmas lunch: A huge family lunch with traditional food and desserts and lasts for hours.
- Christmas presents: In the old days, in Catalonia, kids got presents before Christmas’ Eve dinner. Nowadays, Santa Claus has arrived to our country too and we find presents for everybody under the Christmas Tree in the morning.
