Music

Activity 1

In the first activity that we had to do in groups for music was to investigate on the Spanish musical movement that took place in the eighties and to find out about catalan rock music. For our web page we will enlist the most significative things we have learnt as a result of our investigations:

Pop and Rock Music in Spain during the 80's and in Catalonia during the 90's

The 80's and the "Movida Madrileña":
"La Movida Madrilena", was the pop cultural movement of late 70's created by the town-council with the purpose of giving to the young people an alternative behaviour out of alcohol and drugs (it was unsuccessful but very popular).
The Eighties gave birth to the first clear sample of cultural and progressive movements for Madrid. Born was the "Movida Madrileña,". The streets, bars, cinemas filled with the names of artists who tried to give to their city a different image ( such as the internationally famous Pedro Almodovar) than that which it had during the pro-Franco era. The "Movida Madrileña" provided Madrid of its famous jump to the fame. As a consequence of this liberal movement many new bands and artists started to evolve:

Mecano: Techno-pop band from Spain Mecano was formed in the early '80s by brothers Nacho and José María Cano, who were joined by singer Ana Torroja.
