In
the first activity that we had to do in groups for music was to
investigate on the Spanish musical movement that took place in the
eighties and to find out about catalan rock music. For our web page
we will enlist the most significative things we have learnt as a
result of our investigations:

Pop and Rock Music in Spain during the 80's and
in Catalonia during the 90's

The
80's and the "Movida Madrileña":
"La Movida Madrilena", was the pop cultural movement of late
70's created by the town-council with the purpose of giving to the young
people an alternative behaviour out of alcohol and drugs (it was unsuccessful
but very popular).
The Eighties gave birth to the first clear sample of cultural and progressive
movements for Madrid. Born was the "Movida Madrileña,".
The streets, bars, cinemas filled with the names of artists who tried
to give to their city a different image ( such as the internationally
famous Pedro Almodovar) than that which it had during the pro-Franco era.
The "Movida Madrileña" provided Madrid of its famous
jump to the fame. As a consequence of this liberal movement many new bands
and artists started to evolve:

Mecano: Techno-pop band
from Spain Mecano was formed in the early '80s by brothers Nacho and José
María Cano, who were joined by singer Ana Torroja.

Alaska:
In 1978, Olvido Gara (aka Alaska) started a music project called Kaka
de Luxe, playing along with Nacho Canut and Carlos Berlanga.
