back to guided essaysShould humans be cloned?

Cloning is the creation of cells using DNA from a single "parent", bypassing the normal reproductive process. Cloning implies obtaining stem cells from a human embryo. The clone has identical DNA to the parent. Scientists might grow skin, organs for transplants or even a whole body.

Arguments in favor: Embryos are being used - under strictly controlled conditions - for fertility research and have been a great help for some parents (vitro fertilisation)

Parents are able to choose the sex of children in advance, wich can be of great help whem some of the parents are carriers of known sex-specific diseases.

Therapeutic cloning could be of great benefit to seriously ill people It could end degenerative diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and cystic fibrosis.

One day it may be possible to make replacement tissue to treat burns and to grow replacement organs for transplants without the problems of rejection

Arguments against.
For some religious groups scientists want to take cloned embryos to full life - before killing the baby and transplanting its heart and organs. It is a murder like abortion. It exploits human beings at the most vulnerable stage of their lives - it may be called neo-cannibalism.

Obtaining stem cells from a human embryo is morally wrong, because it involves the destruction of a human life. An embryo is an individual at the start of its life and we should not use an embryo as a mere source of cells. Human life is inviolably sacred, both before and after any arbitrary 14-day deadline.

"Spare part" cloning creates human embryos so as to harvest their cells. As the cells are extracted, the clone is killed, having served the purpose for which it was made. A human life has been created for destruction.

In conclusion I think that....
