Concept. We may define progress as the improvement of a society or civilization along history. Humanity has progressed… however… Generally two points of view: Technophobic (who feel fear of or aversion to technology, especially computers and high technology) and technophile, the people who are very enthusiastic about technology.

 

Positive points/benefits. Optimistic about future. Technological developments represent progress towards greater human happiness. Progress has made our lives easier

Increased life expectancy, reduced childhood death., more opportunities for education, medicine, leisure.

Computers replace many tasks that used to be monotonous.

Technological advances are related to economic developement and employment.

 

Negative/critical points, anti-technology views. Pessimistic about future, limitations, pitfalls dangers of technology...

Individuals ara more dependent on machines, less in touch with Nature
New technologies have contributed to damaging the environment: global warming, pollution, deforestation… Technology is depleting the Earth's energy supply (oil)

The developement of some diseases without cure (AIDS, cancer), the most important use of technology is the war, genetically modified plants and animals, technological may be used for employment reduction...

The wealth in the world is concentrated in the hands of a tiny portion of the world population. The distance between developed and underdeveloped countries is bigger than ever. In our society homeless people, inmigrants, some people are living under the standars, while a minority have more than they need…

Conclusion. Looking on the both sides I may conclude by saying…

a. Technology is definitely a good part of our lives. Technology is wonderful, improves our life… . It makes what we do better. Some tasks are easier, some are more enjoyable, and some are even eliminated.

b. That there are more negative points in technological advances… so…

c. I don't think we can say that technological progress is either positive or negative, but…
