Talk about |
Teacher must explain
students that every person, with lots of experimentation and practice,
developed their own "aesthetic stance" (point of view) and their own
signature style. And Great artists are not great because they learned how
to copy but of what they contribute.
The different styles seen in a range of work by the artist: Van Gogh, for line, colour and texture applied through strokes. Seurat, for colour, shape and texture applied through dots. Klimt, for colour and pattern, he used shapes as circles, spirals, rectangles, triangles. What information can they get from these artists. |
Viewfinder |
Sketchbook |
The children have to choose
a picture from magazines.
They choose a work from the artists given and write the name of the artist and the title of work plus other details about the artist ( place of birth, style of work...) They have to make a list of the colours, shapes, lines, pattern the artist used |
|
Doing |
They start identifying and
describing the works of the artist, 4 from each artist.
Then, they choose a picture by an artist whose style want to use. They
use the viewfinder on their own picture from the magazine and
decide what are they going to collect.
They must not copy an original artist work.
On a piece of A3 or A4 art paper they have to use a thin paint brush to mark the main shape ( They can shape slightly with a pencil) using paint. As they build up their painting they may need to look at the sketchbook. When everyone finishes display all the pictures and they should try to find the artist's work if matches each painting, and give reasons why. |
