1. Learn that light causes shadows.

2. Learn that a shadow is made when an object blocks light.

3. Understand that if an object is moved closer to the light source, the shadow gets bigger.

4. Understand that if an object is moved further away from the light source, the shadow gets smaller.

Children will be able to:

Tell pupils that they are going to watch a PowerPoint presentation.

2. Tell pupils that they are going to make shadow shapes outdoors on a sunny day. Invite pupils to describe what is happening. Point out how the shadow always points away from the sun, and that the light is travelling in a straight line.

3. Cast a shadow of a toy figure, using a torch or slide projector. Children describe the shape, try to make the figure make different shadows. Children draw pictures to show what they have done, write and explain about what they have done.

4. Tell pupils that they re going to complete worksheet 18.
