The East End of London is changing nowadays, from deprived slum to trendy hangout. In the 1980s the regeneration of the Docklands area took place. In the early 1990s young artists were attracted to the East End with its cheap housing and large industrial spaces, perfect for studios. Hoxton Square –originally known as Hogsdon due to the pigs kept there- was the focus of the growing East End art scene and, since the White Cube gallery opened thre in 2001, this square has become cool and the centre of trendy nightlife, as well as the art scene. |
