The IES Alexandre Deulofeu Orator Project for the year 2006 has been about history. The History of Catalonia compared to that of Scotland.
Catalonia and Scotland are two nations without their own state and have preserved a strong personality along the history. In spite of not having their own political entity recognized internationally, they have not stopped struggling in the modern times for their political autonomy and the preservation of their signs of identity.
Along the history they have suffered –though atdifferent moments- some similar processes that we summarize in three:
-
birth and formation of a nation
-
loss of political power and of the national rights to the hands of another state
-
claim of an autonomy and a recognition of the national rights.
What we aim forthis project-work is to follow the main moments of each part of this process, of the history of Catalonia as well asthat of Scotland and to compare them, since the history compared is a good exercise to analyze the singularity and at the same time the common features of the historical phenomena.
Because of that we made the work like a journey intime and also inspace, explaining the principalsmoments and also the placesshowing that they are witnesses ofhistory.
