ACTIVITY 6: PIANO, FORTE

The object of this activity is to make pupils reflect on the sensitive and human aspects of music, which only come through performance.

The computer allows us to listen to technically perfect performances but lacks the power of expression. Some programs don't support the change of intensity, but this is a quality that should not be overlooked. In addition to the proposed exercises pupils can experiment with the intensity of sound with an instrument (flute, xylophone), or using their own voices.

Exercises 1 and 2 in this activity include a listening section on tape, disk or compact disk. Concerning historical knowledge, the pupils will prepare and comment on the audition, putting the works into context. Before beginning the exercises, it would be worth explaining to them (if they aren't already aware) the specific nomenclature for this quality (ff, f, m, mp, p, pp, cresc., dim., and hairpins).

For exercise 3 you will need either a synthesizer, a sound module or a sound card.

If the Music program is used any modifications to Strength using the Midi option (key M) in multitimbric mode will affect each of the voices.
