ACTIVITY 8: MUSICAL FRAMEWORK

The object of this activity is to get pupils to differentiate between the concepts of monody, polyphony and harmony.

Exercise one involves the recognition of textures. Pupils must listen to and classify pieces given by the tutor according to the type of texture the pieces possess. Subsequent exercises are more experimental, with pupils producing simple canons and harmonisations of popular pieces according to guidelines given by the tutor.
