ACTIVITY 7:
THE MUSICAL PALETTE
- Open the file BRANDEN. Listen to it. Then try to change the assigned timbres. Investigate the options the program has to offer. First select one timbre for all the voices, for example grand piano. Listen to the result and see how it has changed the piece.
Now select the option for assigning different timbres to each voice and choose a soft flute for voice 1, a clarinet for voice 2 and a horn for voice 3. Listen to the piece and observe the differences.
Finally, choose your own three instruments different from the ones we suggested and listen to the result.

Using the program "Music": listen with the PC-POLI option, then with the MIDI-MPU or ADLIB-FM (key *). Change timbres assigned (key M). Note that you have two options: the Multitimbric mode and the monotimbric mode. First select the monotimbric mode, activate the timbre (1-64) and choose grand piano. Listen to the result and observe how it has changed.
Now select the Multitimbric mode and select the soft flute for voice 1, a clarinet for voice 2 and a horn for voice 3. Listen to the piece again and observe the differences in relation to the earlier versions.

- Retrieve the piece ROSEBUD. Do the same as in exercise 1:
- Listen to the piece with the various listening options the program has to offer.
- Select the timbre option for all three voices and select the orchestra timbre. Listen to it.
- Select the option for a different timbre for each voice. For example, saxophone for voice 1, trombone for voice 2 and voice 3 an acoustic piano. Listen to it.
- Another possibility to follow would be to assign crystals to voice 1, (Crystal), the xylophone to voice 2 and tubular bells (TubularW) to voice 3.
Listen to this. Try the various combinations of timbre the program supports.
