The basic equipment we need if we are to use computer resources in music education is a standard multimedia computer (with a sound card and a CD-ROM drive). PCs as well as Macintosh, Atari or Amiga computers all allow the generation of sound and the processing of musical data.

If we want to take advantage of the musical capabilities of computers, we need special programs: : music editors, multimedia applications or entertainment programs.

To get the most out of the computer, music peripherals, such as MIDI keyboards or sound modules, should be added.
