2. Read the following three summaries from the text and decide: which is best A,B or C?

Why do this? It will help you see the difference between a good summary and a poor one. A good summary must catch the key ideas (not the anecdotes!) in a few words.   

A. The protagonist is a controversial figure in that he is a stranger to some but a manufacturer of dreams to others. This article from the press exemplifies this idea with a trace of humour.

B. Kate Kellaway has a godson who is frightened at Christmas at the thought of someone coming down the chimney to catch him and take him away. Besides, while we tell children not to take sweets from strangers we encourage them to accept Christmas gifts from an old man.

C. The protagonist of our story presents some problems at Christmas. In the first place he frightens a few children and, then, he has logistical difficulties such as coming down narrow chimney pipes or the weight of his reindeer on old roofs. Besides, he smells bad and intimates excessively with children. The article states a clear disgust for this person.
