The subtraction or difference of two vectorsand, we express it with
-, is the addition of the first one them with the opposite of the second:

-=+ ( -)

To draw the difference- we can place -after and join the origin ofwith the end of -.

Also we can use the parallelogram law to draw the difference-. This rule allows us to obtain easily all the additions or subtractions possible of two vectorsand, that is to say +,-, -+ and --.

Observe that -+ = -(-) and that  --= -(+) .

INTERACTIVE ACTIVITY

You have two vectorsandand the four vectors

+
-
-+
--

obtained by the parallelogram law.

You can move the ends of the vectorsand.

Move them of a lot of you form notice the behaviour of two vector the additions/subtractions ofand.

SOLUTION (Animation)

HOMEWORK
We give you the same vectors in previous activity

Make in your notebook three constructions like of the interactive activity to obtain the following additions and subtractions:

1)+,  -+,- and  --

2)+,  -+,- and  --

3)+,  -+,- and  --
